This Job Has No Title (Just Words And A Tune)
If you get that reference, extra points.
Polychrome is a small design group that does big work. In the last few
years we've made videos, renderings, environmental graphics, motion
graphics, websites, web apps, identities, album covers and full brand
campaigns. We're successful, growing, and always evolving. We like to
think we can do just about anything. Often that's what we're asked to do.
This means we're very busy with interesting work, but it also means
it's a bit hard to describe the 'job' we need someone to help us do. The
reality is that the job is doing whatever is needed in one of Los
Angeles' most active creative shops. You should be a creative person,
with hands on skills, but most of all you'll need to be uncommonly
detail oriented. You should be able to ramp up fast and have a
spider-sense about what to worry about and when. You should enjoy making
lists, checking things off, and obsess about making things perfect. We
need a great communicator, someone who's not shy, and who will enjoy
spending time with bold personalities. We'll need to put you in front of
clients and they're going to need to come back and tell us that you're
awesome.
We've deliberately kept our first team very small —
working with us means fitting in with the rhythm and the flow of the
group. Culture is important here. Work is life with us, and we're picky
about who we live with. We'd expect you to be the same.
Technically: know the internet, know Adobe apps, know Office apps, be
smart about general tech and hungry about knowing what's new and
interesting. A design background is good, but a good design sensibility,
street smarts, communication and project management skills are more
important. The people who ask us to create work expect both great
results and a great experience while it gets done. Process is more than
half the game. Nothing can fall through the cracks here. Maybe this
means you've trained as a creative person, but you gravitate towards
details and admin. Maybe you're an administrative person, with a
creative streak that you're not expressing at your current gig.
You've probably been beating the streets more than us, but there's
likely no job at any studio in LA that is going to resemble this.
There's no junk work, pizza coupons, or banner garbage that gets done at
Polychrome. We're looking for hands on help with our most important
projects. You won't be bored.
If this sounds interesting, get
in touch. We will make interviews quick — we'll both know if we're right
for each other within a few minutes. Come by, tell us your story, lunch
or coffee is on us.
Contact jobs@polychrome.com — please no
phone calls or resumes or gigantic PDF attachments of your portfolio.
Impress us early with your willingness to respect these requests. We
look forward to meeting. Cheers.
